10 benefits of Prenatal Yoga

I've heard so many pros and cons of prenatal yoga and I was always a bit confused about it. Is it good for your baby? What's the truth and what are the benefits?

Thanks to Babble.com and Rebecca Odes collected together the 10 benefits of prenatal yoga.

The first benefit is that it builds strength. According to Rebecca:

One of the best things about yoga is it makes you stronger all over," says Santa Monica YogaWorks instructor Julie Jacobs. You’ll need that strength in your lower body to carry the added pregnancy weight and compensate for changes in balance. And you’ll need it in your upper body to handle the weight you’ll be carrying around for the year or so after birth… your baby!

The truth about "Mommy Brain"

It is actually incredible how much interesting information we can read about parenting. Today I was reading one of my favorite sites: Babble.com where I found this very good article about "Mommy brain".

It is pretty amazing how our brain changes when we give birth and not only ours, moms', but dad's brain too.

According to Heather Turgeon - science writer and psychotherapist :

The study, published in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience last month, wasn't the first time scientists had shown that motherhood gives us a mental boost. In fact, decades of studies on animals and humans have revealed that our neurons reorganize when we have a child, making us more intuitive and wiring us to find our babies — and all the diapering, soothing, and feeding they require — highly rewarding.

She continues:

That parenthood changes dads, too, makes sense in light of the new study: If the parent-brain is shaped by the act of caretaking itself, then anyone is fair game. Biological mom or dad, any combination of same sex partners, adoptive parents and so on — a person who loves, holds, nurtures and forms a primary bond with a baby is re-wired at the core.

This is really fascinating, you can read the rest of the article HERE

Skip the Candy - 5 Advent Calendars Made For Play

Good news! You can make advent calendars without candy. Jeanne Sager - one of cafemoms great blogger shared her experience about advent calendars that made for play.

She writes:

Buy (or make) an advent calendar. But let's skip the flimsy cardboard filled with candy and hanging in every Christmas-celebrating home in America, shall we?

You can try the decorative for the adults, or you can force your kids to get creative this holiday season with advent calendars (gasp) don't have any chocolate. They might even be better than the gifts under the tree:
